Science and popular culture, however, seem to have divorced themselves somewhat within the area of physicality. Less vogue are the beards and hairy chests of more traditionally gender-defined days gone by, and more popular is the over-groomed, waxed, buffed, detailed and polished man of the twenty-first century. Said men are even possibly complete with an oversized diamond earring and obscenely manicured facial hair, for which I whole heartedly blame on David Beckham. No amount of accuracy and agility with his kick can match that which he has displaced with his razor, and I hold him personally responsible for the emasculation of the entire male human species, between the ages of 12 to 20, over the last six or more years. When once it was about the ability to swing an axe, it now seems to have been somewhat replaced with the ability to shave a sort of filigree into one’s facial hair.
